- Quotes
- Prices come from a simulated market data feed and are cached for ten seconds. When a real market data key is configured, the same figures are sourced live instead. Prices are indicative only and are not executable.
- Price history
- Charts are drawn from daily closes. With the demo feed these are generated deterministically per symbol, so a ticker always draws the same history; they do not represent actual market moves.
- Market hours
- Orders fill only during regular hours — 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET on trading days, allowing for holidays and early closes. Anything placed outside those hours rests until the next open.
- Cash balance
- Every dollar of cash the account holds, settled or not. Pending withdrawals are already deducted; pending deposits are not yet added.
- Buying power
- Cash balance less anything held by working orders. This is what a new order can draw on.
- Unsettled cash
- Proceeds from a sale before they settle, which is the next trading day. Unsettled cash can be traded with, but not withdrawn.
- Withdrawable
- Settled cash that no working order is holding — the most that can be requested as a withdrawal right now.
- Working order
- An order resting on the book because it has not reached its price, or because the market is closed. Buy orders hold their estimated cost until they fill, expire or are cancelled.
- Order types
- A market order takes the current quote. A limit order sets the worst price you will accept. A stop order becomes a market order once the price passes your trigger; a stop-limit becomes a limit order instead.
- Time in force
- Day orders stop working at the session close. Good-til-cancelled orders keep working across sessions until they fill or you cancel them.
- Opening balance
- What the account was funded with when it was opened, before any trading, deposits or withdrawals.
- Amount invested
- The cost basis of currently held positions. Buying increases it; selling releases the sold shares' cost basis back out.
- Liquidated stock
- Gross proceeds received from sales, before any profit or loss is considered.
- Unrealized P&L
- Market value of open positions minus their cost basis. It moves with quotes and is not banked until you sell.
- Realized P&L
- Profit or loss locked in on shares already sold, measured against the average cost of those shares.
- Total account value
- Cash balance plus the market value of all open positions.
- Today
- Change in value since the previous session close, priced from the last daily close in the price history.
- Weight
- A position's market value as a share of all holdings.
- Price alerts
- A one-shot watch on a price. When the quote reaches the threshold you set, we email you once and the alert retires.
- Transaction history
- Every movement of money — deposits, withdrawals, trades and administrative adjustments — recorded against the account with the balance that resulted.
